Romans 6:15-23 - Slaves of Righteousness for Sanctification

Link: Romans 6:15-23

When I am studying passages that have quite a bit of doctrine in them, I like to read them in different translations, but I usually use the New American Standard Bible as my base. It is a word-for-word translation and usually translates closer to the original Greek than any other. This really helps when doing Greek word studies.  Click on the link above to have a parallel reading of the New American Standard and the J.B. Phillips translations.

BACKGROUND

In Adam we are under the dominion of sin; in Christ, we are freed from sin, enslaved to God, and slaves of righteousness. As we present our bodies as slaves to righteousness, the result will be sanctification and an eternity with God. Sanctification is one of those big words like justification, propitiation, redemption, and imputation, but we will wait until Romans 8 to define it.

APPLICATION

Romans 6:23 is an essential verse to memorize and quote for the rest of your life!

PRAYER

Thank you, Lord, for freeing us from sin because of Christ. In His name, we pray, Amen.
